Here are several Christmas tips and tasty recipes to help you navigate through the Christmas holidays without putting on too much padding around your middle:

 

As far as tips for the party guest:

1.  Have a DK protein shake before going to the party;

2.  Have at least 2 glasses of water before you have any alcohol;

3.  Drink only red wine (first), vodka soda w/ lemon, [1 or 2 at the most]

4.  Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water in between every glass of alcohol

5.  Stick to clean sources of protein (chicken, lean meat and fish) and make sure that it is unwrapped and not fried.

 

As far as foods that I would serve:

1.  DK's low - fat hummus with vegetables

2.  Seared tuna with pickled ginger on sugar cane skewers w/ Cilantro Citrus Dressing

3.  Baked falafel with low - fat mint yogurt dressing

4.  Sesame Chicken Fingers Sate with DK's low fat peanut sauce

5.  Roasted Red Pepper and Almond Spread on Endive Spears

6.   Buffalo Meatballs with Marinara Sauce

7.  Spicy Thai Beef on Daikon Radish w/ Sesame Ginger Sauce

8. David’s Healthy Egg Nog

9. Edamame dips with vegetable crudités

 

SPICY PEANUT SAUCE

¼ cup of unsweetened peanut butter

¼ cup bottled water

2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce

½ teaspoon grated lime zest

½ teaspoon minced garlic or 1 teaspoon Roasted Garlic Paste

½ teaspoon grated gingerroot

½ teaspoon Thai chili paste

In a small bowl or food processor, combine the peanut butter, water, lime juice, soy sauce, lime zest, garlic, ginger, and chili paste. Mix until smooth. Use immediately or refrigerate for up to 3 days.

Makes 10 servings. Per serving: 40 calories, 2 g protein, 2 g carbohydrate, 3 g fat, 0 g saturated fat, 0 g fiber, 1 g sugar

 

CITRUS CILANTRO DRESSING

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

1 tablespoon bottled water

2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon whole grain mustard

½ teaspoon grated orange zest

½ teaspoon chopped cilantro

½ teaspoon olive oil (optional)

In a small bowl or glass jar, combine the orange juice, water, lime juice, lemon juice, mustard, orange zest, cilantro, and oil (if using). Whisk or shake until mixed. Use immediately or refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Makes 5 servings. Per serving: 6 calories, 0 g protein, 1 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat, 0 g saturated fat, 0 g fiber, 1 g sugar

 

DAVID’S HEALTHY HOLIDAY EGG NOG

This low fat, low calorie adaptation of a holiday favorite is a tasty delight and is a great way to get a healthy dose of protein without the fat, sugar or extra calories.

1 packet of David’s Vanilla Meal Replacement Powder

10 oz. cold mineral still mineral water

2 TBS. of skim milk

Pinch of fresh ground nutmeg

Pinch of fresh ground cinnamon

Ice

Pour the packet in a blender, add the water, milk and ice and blend until nice and frothy – about 1 minute. Pour in a tall glass and top with a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon.
